Poder Civico is a non-profit, democratic and independent organization. We believe that ideas have the power to change attitudes, lives, and ultimately, our society as a whole. At Ciudad de las Ideas (The City of Ideas) we celebrate human creativity and curiosity by bringing together the worlds greatest thinkers, who, in only 21 minutes, present paradigms that empower ideastas  (the citizens of  Ciudad de las Ideas) to magnify their creative potential.

 

A Festival that Inspires

Every year, we gather in Puebla, Mexico, to explore the visionary ideas made by today’s most fascinating thinkers. Since it’s creation Ciudad de las Ideas has sought to question our pre-conceived ideas and address the challenges faced by our society today. We emphasize and encourage interaction among our guest speakers and all our ideastas, characterized by their embrace of critical thinking. Our hope is that the ideas proposed by our speakers will awaken a voice inside you, a call to action, to bring about change to our planet.

 

Andrés Roemer, Curator

Dr. Roemer, Poder Cívico's president and the curator of the festival Ciudad de las Ideas, is the bold creator of the festival. His teaching experience at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in Mexico and the US Universities, and his standing as a leading disseminator of ideas through his television programs, allow Roemer to gather single-handedly the most brilliant contemporary minds in the world.

Initiatives

The Innovation for Humanity Award recognizes innovative thinkers whose creativity and initiative have offered invaluable ideas to humanity.

 

Each year, we select one exceptional individual and award him or her $125,000 USD of which $12,500 USD are given to a charity of his or her choice, $12,500 USD towards his or her own research, and the remaining $100,000 USD finance the Innovation for Humanity Scholarship.
