He is one of eight authors in the world who has been recognized with science fiction’s most important awards. Robert is the science fiction and fantasy writer who has won the most awards of all times in France, the United States, Japan, China, and Spain. Likewise, Sawyer was one of the first members of the Canadian Science Fiction and Fantasy Hall of Fame.
Sawyer wrote the novel FlashForward, the basis for the the American TV series with the same name, for which he also participated as screenplay writer.
He has published articles in main scientific journals, including Science and Nature, and is a worldwide speaker in science topics. He is a member of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada and former president of the Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers of America. He was the first science fiction writer to have a website.
