Helen Pluckrose is a British liberal humanist, a cultural and political writer and the editor-in-chief of Areo Magazine. She is the co-author, with James Lindsay, of Cynical Theories, which looks at the evolution of postmodern thought in scholarship and activism.
She received her degree in English literature from the University of East London and her Masters in early modern studies from Queen Mary University London. Her academic writing focuses on late medieval and early modern religious writing by and for women. During her studies, Helen became concerned about the impact of postmodernism and critical theory on academia, liberalism and social justice movements. A life-long feminist, she was dismayed by the changes wrought on the movement by this school of thought and published her first popular essay ‘Why I no Longer Identify as a Feminist.’
Helen’s best-known essay, ‘How French Intellectuals Ruined the West: Postmodernism and its Impact, Explained’ has been translated into several languages and been reprinted and responded to on many forums. She writes regularly on liberalism, feminism, postmodernism and secularism and writes, researches and edits in a voluntary capacity for the British Humanist Association.
