Innovation for Humanity Prize

The main purpose for the Innovation for Humanity Prize is recognizing the innovating minds that, with their creativity and initiative, have made valuable contributions to humanity.

The person worthy of this prize will be elected among aproximately forty international speakers, who will share the ideas that they find most valuable according to their own criteria.

This year the jury will be made up by all the speakers and assistants to the event. Our webpage will have a counter through which you will be able to select your favorite speaker. This counter will ask you for your email, since you can only vote for one speaker. You should take in mind the ideas the speakers share, as well as their contribution towards knowledge and innovation for the sake of humankind.

The voting tally will stop minutes before the award is given out (the Festival's final event), which you'll be able to follow through our webpage.

The winner will receive the quantity of 125 000 USD to the standard of a prize, which will be distributed in the following way:

1. 100 000 USD will be destined to create a scholarship in the name of the winner. Through this scholarship, outstanding students will benefit with tickets without cost to assist La Ciudad de las Ideas (Ideas City) 2009. This event entails the objective of sharing the winning speaker’s ideas, mainly in generations of future scholarship holders, as well as all those people interested in human present and future.

2. The prize beneficiary will assign 12 500 USD in favor of an altruistic cause through which his/her innovating ideas can develop with the purpose of supporting one or several of the following fields: education, energy, technology, the environment, economic development, human rights and communication.

3. 12 500 USD will be for the winner’s personal use.

2009 Award

This year it was particularly difficult to name the winner, voting results were very close and presented various nominees. However, it was necessary to grant the prize and the speakers managed to come to an agreement: a tie was decided again where the winners were:

* Philip Zimbardo, whose donation was given to CIPERT
* Dan Ariely, whose donation was given to Improbable Research

We encourage you to follow the causes supported by the speakers.

At the winners' petition a contest will be opened to award the Philip Zimbardo and Dan Ariely Grants. The launch date will be May 3rd, which you'll be able to see in our webpage, remember that you can win a pass to assist the La Ciudad de las Ideas Festival if your submission is chosen.
