Tomás Barreiro is a Mexican composer who works in music for film and television, as well as concert music. He holds a master’s degree in classical guitar from the San Francisco Conservatory, California. Composer Steve Reich chose him as one of four finalists for the prestigious Toru Takemitsu Composition Award 2008, awarding him second place in the competition of more than 90 composers from 26 countries.
His concert music has been premiered in Mexico, France, Poland, Japan and the United States, where he was able to lead the AGBU Assembly at the Weill Recital at Carnegie Hall, as part of the 2012 Sayat Nova International Composition Award.
He has worked since 2002 at the School of Music of the State of Hidalgo, where he coordinates the master’s degree in film music composition and at the Universidad Panamericana since 2019, where he teaches the filmscoring workshop. He performed the artistic coordination of the musical meeting Instrumenta Oaxaca in the 2014 and 2015 editions.
He won the Ariel Award for Best Music for movie The Good Girls in 2019, and has been nominated three times for the Ariel Awards and the Phoenix Awards. He is a member of the National System of Art Creators.
