Rodrigo y Gabriela are a celebrated duo and guitar virtuosos from Mexico City. They met as teenagers while playing in a thrash metal band called Tierra Acida. They formed Rodrigo and Gabriela in 2000 and moved to Dublin, Ireland. The talented duo participated in the renowned Oxegen music festival in Ireland, where it attracted significant attention. Their first album Foc was released in 2001, followed by Re-Foc in 2003, which received gold certification. In 2004, they released Live: Manchester and Dublin and received platinum certification. On January 2020, their sixth studio album Mettavolution won a Grammy Award for the Best Contemporary Instrumental Album at the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards.
Mettavolution marks the most ambitious music of Rodrigo y Gabriela’s remarkable two-decade career. Three years in the making, the LP embraces the duo’s passionate interest in Buddhism, the history of human evolution, and the liberation of the potential we have as a species, all expressed through the medium of two acoustic guitars.
