Eighth out of 12 brothers, in her early and teen years she worked on field and domestic labors in the La Patrona community (Guadalupe), located in the central mountain zone of Veracruz, in the county of Amatlán de los Reyes.
In 1995, being already been married and with one child she got involved in the production of sugarcane, and shortly after she started her altruistic labor feeding the people that travel on the freight train known as “La Bestia” (The Beast) without knowing that those people were Central Americans.
Her leadership has allowed her to be the coordinator of an important volunteer group, Las Patronas (The Patrons), who offer assistance to migrants that travel through Veracruz and that with time they have specialized in the promotion and defense of human rights.Because of this great labor, Las Patronas (The Patrons) have been recognized with several awards and, Norma, by her part, was included in the 50 most powerful woman of the country list of 2015, made by Forbes México.
The documentaries made by the group have led them to share their experience in England, Italy, Spain, Colombia and the United States.
