“Physics is valuable because it helps us understand where we stand, to know how the universe works.”
Miguel Alcubierre is a Mexican theoretical physicist. He studied Physics at the Faculty of Sciences of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), later in 1994 he earned his doctorate at the University of Cardiff and for a while he worked at the Max Planck Institute for Gravitational Physics in Potsdam, Germany, where he developed new mathematics techniques to describe the physics of black holes.
Since 2002, he has worked at the Institute of Nuclear Sciences, UNAM, where he coordinates a research on numerical relativity, an effort to use computers to formulate and solve physical equations formulated by Albert Einstein. In 2012, Dr. Alcubierre was appointed director of the Institute, since then he supports new lines of research related to direct search for dark matter, physics detectors, cold atoms, and so on.
Also, Alcubierre is recognized for having developed a mathematical model that would travel faster than light without violating the physical principle of Albert Einstein. This mathematical model is called Alcubierre metric and correlates with the momentum of deformation.
