Mario Rojas is a young Mexican tenor native of Torreon, Coahuila, currently studying his second year at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, USA, under the tutelage of César Ulloa.
He received the Plácido Domingo scholarship awarded by the International Society of Mexican Art Exchange A.C. (Sociedad Internacional de Valores de Arte Mexicano A.C., SIVAM), the most recognized program for young singers in Mexico, being one of the youngest fellows.
He recently played the role of Nemorino in L’elisir d’amore at San Francisco Conservatory of Music Opera Theater, getting important reviews. He has also played the role of Rodolfo in La Boheme, Don Otavvio in Don Giovanni and Julian of the zarzuela La verbena de la Paloma, as well as scenes of Romeo and Juliet, and soon Renato des Grieux in the opera Manon Lescaut with the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Some of his teachers include Joan Dorneman, John Churchwell, Denise Masse, Teresa Rodríguez, Corradina Caporello, Rogelio Riojas and Vlad Iftinca.
Mario was recently winner of the Marta Eggerth Kiepura Award at the International Vocal Competition of the Licia Albanese-Puccini Foundation. As the winner of such award, Mario performed at Carnegie Hall in October 2015.
