“I love Europe! That’s why I live in France. But the EU has no purpose’
Lord Lawson of Blaby became a Conservative MP in 1974, after spending a number of years in journalism; including as editor of The Spectator from 1966 to 1970. He served in Thatcher’s government from 1979 to 1989 as Financial Secretary to the Treasury, Secretary of State for Energy and as Chancellor of the Exchequer. He entered the House of Lords in 1992 and has written a number of books.
In November 2009, he founded The Global Warming Policy Foundation, a think-tank chaired by him. The Foundation seeks to bring reason and balance to the climate change debate and to question the unthinking alarmism, which has imposed misguided policies that place a particularly heavy burden on the poor.
Lord Lawson took a leading part in the successful campaign for Great Britain’s exit from the European Union.
