Julieta Venegas

“As a composer, I have found new ways to express myself, but the songs remains as the essence. [...] My music is an ever-changing process. I summarize my career this way, always looking towards new places.”

Julieta Venegas was born in Tijuana, Baja California. She started her musical preparation studying classical piano, theory, singing and violoncello in the Escuela de Música del Noroeste (Northeastern School of Music) and in the South Western College de San Diego.

She played with Chantaje Group, which would become part of Tijuana No! She immigrated to Mexico City and met Fratta, Café Tacuba, among other artists, who supported her in the introduction of her proposal. Afterwards she started soloist career with her first record entitled Aquí (Here), with which Julieta became one of the most distinguished rock proposals with great international projection.

She has participated in multiple international festivals such as the Midem American Festival, the Rock Festival at Bogota Park, the Arezzo Wave Love Festival, the Hannover Festival, the Cubadisco Festival and the 30th International Cervantino Festival.

She made the songs “Lo que pedí” (“What I Asked for”), “Mala leche” (“Bitchiness”) and “Ay” (“Oh”) for the movie En el país de no pasa nada (In the Country Where Nothing Happens); “Me van a matar” (“They are Going to Kill Me”) for Amores perros (Love’s a Bitch); “El listón de tu pelo” (“The Ribbon of You Hair”) for Asesino en serio  (I Murder Seriously) and “Lo que venga después” (“Whatever Comes Next”) for María llena eres de gracia (Maria Full of Grace).

She was named Ambassador for UNICEF in Mexico on September 2009. She returned to the musical scene in 2015 with a new music label and a concert tour that goes through all the Latin America and Europe.
