As a scholar, Meade teached Microeconomics and Macroeconomics, Introductory and Intermediate courses and Economic Analysis of Law in the Master of Public Policy from ITAM.
He began his career in the financial and treasury area in the public sector in 1991 as a planning analyst at the National Insurance and Bonding Commission (CNSF). Subsequently he was Director General of Financial Planning at the National Commission for the Retirement Savings System (CONSAR), Deputy Secretary of Bank Savings Protection in the Institute for the Protection of Bank Savings (IPAB) and CEO of BANRURAL.
In December 2006, he was appointed Chief of Staff to the then Secretary of Finance Agustin Carstens, and four years later he was appointed Undersecretary of the Ministry of Finance. In 2011, former President Felipe Calderon appointed him Secretary of Energy and a year later he was appointed Secretary of Finance and Public Credit.
He is currently Secretary of Finance to the Government of President Enrique Peña Nieto.
