“The works are the reflection of my mood, my strength, my weight.”
He is a Mexican-Peruvian artist born in Lima in 1965 and a graduate from the Catholic University of Peru. He now lives and works between Mexico City, New York, Madrid and Lima.
Many of his works are based on rapid processes, which force him to have a close relationship with his materials. His sculptures in folded stainless steel follow, on one hand, the mistake, having a similarity to discarded paper sheets, and on the other hand, one of the most primitive manners of giving volume to a sheet of paper.
Besides his work as an artist, Aldo has also been editor and art director. As the Director of Grupo Editorial Celeste, he wrote over 40 publications of contemporary art and fashion from 2000 to 2012, including Celeste and Baby baby baby , two of the most influential contemporary culture and art publicatio ns worldwide. His text pieces are nourished by a diverse source of media and information, song lyrics, or preexisting work. Chaparro uses the paranoia of copycating —related to the authoring and authenticity— to establish encounters or connections with his watchers.
