Steven Landsburg

Did you know that parents who have male children stay married more often than those who only have daughters? Do you know why it makes no sense to give charitable donations to more than one organization? Steven Landsburg does.

Steven is professor of Economics at the University of Rochester, New York. He has a doctorate in Mathematics from the University of Chicago. From 1989 to 1995, he taught at Colorado State University. Landsburg has also been a commentator of economic, political and legal issues, which has caused controversy sometimes.

When writing in Slate Magazine, the titles of his columns were diverse and some of them were about common themes, such as the debt of the United States, the obesity crisis, Hurricane Katrina damages and the wages of the NFL captains. Steven has investigated microeconomics and its implications, such as the value of a cell phone when driving, the cost (career) of motherhood and how much the daughters (as opposed to male children) are causes of divorce.

Landsburg describes himself as a  "hardcore libertarian", emphasizes the importance of individual choice and supports free trade opposing to protectionism. He has appeared in several newspapers and magazines, including The New York Times, The Washington Post, Forbes Magazine, The Wall Street Journal and other publications. He is author of The Armchair Economist, which has been published in five languages.
