“I study the dark side of human nature”.
-David Livingstone Smith
David Livingstone Smith is a philosopher, but he is not interested in doing what other philosophers do. He prefers to think about those things that make a difference in people’s lives. His philosophical work focuses on quality of life, holding that the best way to achieve it is by understanding ourselves with the help of biology.
Livingstone Smith is not afraid of fighting against difficult topics; in fact, he got the attention of media due to the publication of his first book about lies, then with another book about war, and the most recent one about dehumanization. In general, he analyzes the worst aspects of human nature, explaining and exposing their facets and the possible manners of transcending them.
Currently, Livingstone Smith is director of The Human Nature Project.
