In 1965, Daniel earned his doctorate in Philosophy at the University of Oxford in England, where he studied with the famous philosopher Gilbert Ryle. Since then, he has taught himself Cognitive Sciences and he now studies the consciousness, intentionality, artificial intelligence and memetics.
His contributions about the current meaning of Darwinism, free will, evolution and religion are some of the most important among intellectuals.
In 1985, he co-founded and co-directed the Curricular Software Studio at Tufts in Boston, as well as The Computer Museum.
He is Co-director of the Center for Cognitive Studies at Tufts University and, since 1987, a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the European Academy of Sciences and Arts.
He is the author of Breaking the Spell and Religion as a Natural Phenomenon, in which he tries to link religious beliefs with evolution, and explains the possible reasons for the phenomenon of religious groups. He also wrote Freedom Evolves, and Darwin's Dangerous Idea.
