La Ciudad de las Ideas is an International Festival of Brilliant Minds, a celebration of creativity and curiosity. With the participation of over 60 speakers, from scientists to opinion leaders, the festival takes place from the 8th to the 10th of November 2019 in Puebla, Mexico. At this unique event we also offer an artistic and cultural program that includes short films, artistic interventions and music throughout the festival.
The Gifted Citizen Initiative was born in the setting of the International Festival of Brilliant Minds, La Ciudad de las Ideas, with the purpose of maximizing human creativity and innovation through social entrepreneurship.
A Gifted Citizen is someone that tries to impact the lives of 10 million people in the next 6 years. Through this initiative any social entrepreneur is able to join a global movement. The Gifted Citizen Community consists of active people with extraordinary ideas who are passionate about improving the world. For a Gifted Citizen there are non-existen limits and nothing is impossible.
Poder Cívico A.C. is a citizen-organized, non-profit, democratic and nonpartisan organization. It is a space for thinking and acting, fostering Mexico’s transformation into a country that is better prepared to meet the needs of its citizens. Based on principles of respect, plurality and tolerance, Poder Cívico seeks to equip citizens with the tools needed for social transformation so that they may live in a free, safe, respectful, responsible and prosperous country. Poder Cívico is a forum for dialogue and a space for structured participation that stimulates new alternatives to improve the work of governments. The annual festival of La Ciudad de las Ideas is one of the programs Poder Cívico organizes to spread scientific knowledge.
Andrés Roemer holds a master’s degree in Public Administration from Harvard University, as well as a Ph.D. in Public Policy from the University of California, Berkeley.
Roemer has written 16 books, including Sexualidad, derecho y políticas públicas (Sexuality, Law and Public Policies) in 1998, and Economía del crimen (Crime Economics) in 2000. He has also collaborated with essays in major publications like: What to Think about Machines That Think: Today’s Leading Thinkers(2015); furthermore, he has written 2 plays: Oskar y Jack (Oskar and Jack) in 2011, and El otro Einstein (The other Einstein) in 2008.
Furthermore, Microsoft Corporation has created the Award “’Andrés Roemer’ For a distinct service to the community of scholars”
Dr. Roemer is the curator and Co-Founder of La Ciudad de las Ideas.
