Day 2

header

Today was a day to enjoy artistic expressions, to rethink our role in ecology, in education and to re-live.
We present you the highlights of Saturday, December 5, 2020 and we invite you tomorrow, December 6, to analyze after hearing interesting contrary opinions on the same topics.

RE-FRESH

Today we inaugurate with the presentation of Rodrigo y Gabriela, a Mexican acoustic guitar duo recognized worldwide and recently nominated for the Grammy Awards for their album Mettavolution, of which they performed today a melody with a special focus on rhythm and energy.
Israeli designer and inventor Dror Benshetrit spoke to us about the motivation and commitment to mix nature with urban architecture and planning, to achieve a balance between design and nature, in order to grow and evolve.
Avi Schiffmann, an 18-year-old student, recounted how he created one of the world’s largest web sites for tracking coronavirus, which has received more than 1.7 billion visits; Stephen Hicks commented on an interesting approach to innovation in education and Jason Silva talked about the exponential change in technology over the past 40 years and the reinvention and transformation in growth during the pandemic.

RE-THINKING

An unbeatable dance technique showed the Mexican ballet dancer who has obtained the three most important awards in this discipline at the international level: Elisa Carrillo, who offered us a great moment of sensitivity.
Othón García, for his part, who in addition to being a Mexican internationalist is passionate about promoting children’s reading, spoke about the importance of force in the community and the family during the COVID-19 pandemic; of education as a promise of social mobility; while Simon Posch, Director of the Vienna House of Music, talked about the work of this museum, the main interactive musical experiences in the world, which inaugurated its first license in the city of Puebla in Mexico.
After the talented Mexican tenor Alan Pingarrón delighted us with works by Beethoven and Schumann on the piano, Fredrik deBoer, American writer and academic, exposed how our flawed educational system works against the people and Jadav Payeng, an environmental activist from India, He recounted how for decades he has planted and cared for trees to create a huge forest reserve.

RE-EVOLUTION / MEX I CAN

To end this segment, Lila Downs, a Grammy Award-winning singer, moved the audience with her songs and music, such as “Querido Al algo” and “Zapata”, with influences from Mexican folk and ranchera music, as well as from the southern United States.
Joaquín Arroyo Cabrales, a Mexican paleontologist, spoke about the current study of mammoths in the basin of Mexico and Enrique Lomnitz, named among the “35 innovators under 35 years of age” by the MIT Technology Review, explained his mission to help that Mexico City goes from being one of the least sustainable in terms of water issues in the world, to being the first mega city to integrate rainwater catchment into its water management strategy.
After enjoying listening to María Hanneman, a 14-year-old pianist winner of the “Grand Prize Virtuoso” in Austria, among many other awards, we witnessed an interview with Andrés Roemer and none other than Yalitza Aparicio, an actress who was nominated as best actress to the Academy Awards®.
Yalitza motivated us by mentioning that when faced with an obstacle she gets up and never gives up; she reminded us of the life of Leonardo da Vinci by expressing «if you fall, you get back up.»
